Update on Haxby Post Office
I’m writing to provide an update, as Luke’s MP Representative during his paternity leave, to share some important updates about the Haxby Post Office.
As many of you know, Luke grew up in Haxby and, like you, understands just how essential a Post Office is to our community in Haxby and Wigginton. As your representative in Parliament, he remains absolutely committed to ensuring residents have access to vital postal and banking services.
Since the closure announcement in March, Luke and his team have been working tirelessly behind the scenes to help bring back a Post Office service to Haxby. In April, Luke managed to postpone the closure of the Morrisons in Haxby by a month. This was a vital short-term fix at the time, while other solutions were considered.
Since then, his team have been in regular contact with the Post Office, interested postmasters, potential host venues, and Haxby Town Council. These have been creative and collaborative conversations, with the community coming together to explore any and all solutions.
This week, a proposal has been put forward to Haxby Town Council for a temporary Post Office service at Oaken Grove Community Centre. This would be welcome as a temporary measure, however, like all of you, Luke’s ultimate priority is securing a permanent Post Office in a central location on The Village.
As a result, his team continues to support this goal by engaging with local organisations, exploring community funding opportunities, and working with interested parties.
Luke remains fully committed to achieving a long-term solution and is determined to see the return of a permanent Post Office for Haxby.
If you have any further questions or wish to share any comments, please do not hesitate to get back in touch with us.
Thank you for your continued support.
Best regards,
Sarah (MP Representative)
