Luke Charters, the Labour Candidate for York Outer, launched his campaign today (Saturday 25th May 2024) at the New Earswick Bowls Club in Huntington.

The event was attended by David Skaith, recently elected Mayor of York and North Yorkshire, Rachael Maskell, Labour MP for York Central and Claire Douglas, Leader of York City Council.

It included a photo opportunity outside of Huntington School, which Luke attended and spoke fondly of in his address.

Luke also highlighted that Labour are undeniably best placed to beat the Conservatives in York Outer. He previously stood for York Outer in 2017, coming a strong second, securing over 21,000 votes. The Labour team have already had 8,000 conversations with residents this calendar year and look forward to thousands more in the weeks ahead.

Luke’s statement:

“I am proud to be standing as the Labour Parliamentary candidate for York Outer. As a local dad, I am running to be your MP.

I grew up in York, having lived across the constituency in Haxby, Strensall and Osbaldwick. I am proud to be raising my family in York Outer.

I attended Huntington School which gave me the confidence to apply and go to Oxford University, and to have a career at the Bank of England. Indeed, education was one of the greatest achievements of the last Labour government, my education and achievements are testament to that. I’m proud that last week Keir Starmer unveiled his plan to bring in 6,500 new teachers into schools. The last Labour government transformed education. We did it once, we’ll do it again – with your help.

Labour is best-placed to beat the Conservatives in York Outer – the seismic York and North Yorkshire Mayoral victory and independent polling all demonstrate this.

This calendar year our amazing Labour volunteers have spoken to 8,000 residents of York Outer and we look forward to speaking to thousands more over the next couple of weeks.

“It’s time for a fresh start in York Outer and I will be that fresh start. Vote for change, vote for Luke Charters, vote for Labour on 4th July 2024”.
