STOP YORK FRACKING PETITION
Prime Minister Liz Truss has announced that the moratorium on fracking in place since 2019 will come to an end.
Prime Minister Liz Truss has announced that the moratorium on fracking in place since 2019 will come to an end, with companies now able to seek planning permission to frack in the York area. Julian Sturdy has previously voted in favour of fracking.
There is currently a major ‘Exploration and Development Licence’ or PEDL covering much of the York Outer area. Concern therefore exists that fracking could commence in places near Haxby & Wigginton, Strensall, Dunnington, and more. Previous exploration fracking sites nearby were just north of Clifton Moor. A further relating to coalbed methane extraction was just outside the constituency, west of Shipton by Benningbrough.
Companies such as INEOS and Cuadrilla are now expected to seek permission to frack in areas where they hold PEDL licences.
“By signing, I join calls to NEVER allow fracking in York and its surrounding communities.
”Julian Sturdy and the Conservatives must honour their 2019 manifesto commitment to retain the ban on fracking.
“I oppose fracking in the York area from near Clifton Moor, to Strensall, and more, in line with the PEDL licences granted.
“I oppose the further exploration of new shale gas opportunities. I oppose the granting of new PEDL licences and the renewal of presently expired licenses to the west of the city. “
